About Bourke & District Children’s Services (BDCS): Bourke & District Children's Services (BDCS) is a not-for-profit children's service situated on the banks of the Darling River in Western NSW at Bourke. We run a Childcare Centre, Preschool, Mobile Play Group and Toy Library.

BDCS works collaboratively with other agencies, organisations, schools, and health care providers to support families, develop links to culture, build capacity of the child and community, nurture a lifelong love of learning, and improve outcomes for the children of Bourke and District.

About the Role: We are seeking a motivated and community-focused individual to join our team as a Community Facilitator. In this role, you will work in the Connected Beginnings team to strengthen partnerships across early childhood, health, and community services. You will help improve access to support for families, build strong relationships with local stakeholders, and contribute to community-led change that supports better outcomes for children in Bourke.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support and contribute to community initiatives across education, community development, social services, health, business, or related fields, while maintaining a strong commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and community members, fostering a positive and inclusive team environment.
  • Communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, demonstrating strong interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Build and maintain meaningful relationships across the community, including with service providers, families, and local organisations.
  • Act as a Community Connector by linking families, services, and stakeholders to strengthen collaboration and improve access to support.
  • Engage respectfully with the local Aboriginal community, demonstrating cultural awareness and understanding of relevant social issues.
  • Prepare clear, concise, and accurate reports, briefing papers and other documentation to support program delivery and decision-making.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential:

  • Demonstrated experience in education, community development, social services, health, business, or a related field, with a commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong, respectful relationships with families, service providers, and community stakeholders.
  • High-level interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills, including the ability to resolve conflict and facilitate collaborative partnerships.
  • Experience in community-led change and working across sectors to support improved outcomes for children and families.
  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear and accurate reports, briefing papers, and other documentation.
  • Current NSW Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain).
  • Current Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (or willingness to obtain).
  • Australian citizenship, permanent residency, or a visa permitting ongoing employment in Australia.

Desirable:

  • Qualifications in Early Childhood Education and Care, Social Work, Community Development, (or willingness to obtain).
  • Understanding of children’s services, funding structures, and service delivery gaps in regional and remote communities.
  • Existing relationships with local or regional stakeholders in the Bourke area.
  • Experience in project coordination, data collection, and program evaluation.
  • Willingness to travel interstate to attend Connected Beginnings confrences and advocate for the project.
  • Knowledge of culturally safe and inclusive practices in early childhood and community service settings.
