Position Title: Aboriginal Liaison Officer (ALO)

Location: Bourke, Far West & North Central NSW

Hours: Part-Time (8:30am - 3:00pm Monday - Friday, negotiable for the right candidate)

Pay Scale: $55 000 + Superannuation

Bourke & District Children’s Services (BDCS) is a not-for-profit children's service situated on the banks of the Darling River in Western NSW at Bourke. We run a Childcare Centre, Preschool, Mobile Play Group and Toy Library.

BDCS works collaboratively with other agencies, organisations, schools, and health care providers to support families, develop links to culture, build capacity of the child and community, nurture a lifelong love of learning and improve outcomes for the children of Bourke and the District.

$55 000 + superannuation – negotiable for highly experienced candidates

SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Ability to identify and address the barriers affecting local First Nation families to access early childhood services.
  • Familiarity and experience working with the local First Nation communities and build relationships across the organisation to facilitate the provision of services.
  • Develop sustainable support strategies and projects in collaboration with other departments and agencies that are in line with local cultural needs.
  • Actively collaborate and network with relevant stakeholders to increase the attendance of children and the engagement of parents and community with BDCS’ services.
  • High quality interpersonal, consultation and communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.

 

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Experience in working with families and community.
  • Previous experience in a First Nations support role.
  • Experience in generating concise and accurate activity reports.

Requirements for Employment 

  • Hold a current class C, P1 or P2 drivers’ licence
  • Hold a current Working with Children Check (WWCC) or willingness to obtain
  • Hold a current Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC) or willingness to obtain
  • Hold a current First Aid Certificate in an Early Childhood Education and Care Setting, or willingness to obtain
